Mar. 24th, 2019 09:26 pm[for Todoroki, Sunday mornings and afternoons used to be filled with traversing the public transit of Musutafu to visit his mother in the hospital and now finally he can again. he's been looking forward to this day for... longer than he cares to admit, since the entirety of his days off have been taken up by the provisional license make-up course. in more than one letter, he's rehashed the date of this specific Sunday that he'd finally get to see her again, circled on a calendar at his desk and planned into his cell phone, when he could bring his victory and accomplishment back to her.]
[and it's what he expected. "absence makes the heart grow fonder" didn't take for him the first time; he never understood it because it was too seeped in abandonment and guilt — but now, with their relationship on the mend, he's surprised by how long their tight hug lasts, how excitedly she engages in his stories (perhaps especially because he leaves the ones about his old man out), how much more light there seems to be from a countenance that had once seemed so withering.]
[it soothes something in him that he can't name. there's not enough emotional awareness in him to give it words — but by the time he says his goodbyes and closes the door to her room behind him, there's a light smile on his features and a warmth that touches his eyes as he pauses there, feeling content.]
[he moves on, as he must. barely gets around a corner before he thinks he hears a familiar voice catching his ear, stopping him in his tracks. there's a pause before he seeks it out, following a few more meters until the hall opens up and he finds the source:]
Yaoyorozu.
